Throughout the year, Shawnee celebrates its rich heritage with a variety of special family events! In addition to these annual celebrations, residents and visitors in Shawnee will find a host of other family events throughout the year -- from a St. Patrick's Day Parade to a Christmas celebration.

   

 
 

 

 

Shawnee Town Straw Hat Saturdays
Saturday, July 12 & 26, August 9, 2008

   
Experience the not-so-lazy days of summer in an early 20th century small farm town during Straw Hat Saturdays at Shawnee Town Museum.

Stop by Shawnee Town’s Straw Hat Saturdays between 10am-2pm on July 12, July 26 and August 9 for a chance to stroll through Shawnee Town and visit with the Museum’s historic interpreters as they crack walnuts, crochet or quilt, do laundry, pick beans, churn ice cream and barter at the General Store.

 

 

 

Fire in the Sky
July 4th Fireworks Celebration
July 4, 2008
The City of Shawnee and the City of Lenexa team up every July 4th to shoot a large fireworks display in Shawnee Mission Park, 79th and Renner. The 20-minute show begins at 9:45 p.m. and is launched from the Theatre in the Park area. Celebrate the 4th of July with family, friends and fireworks! Rain date is July 5th.

 

 
 

Christmas Around Town
December 2, 2008
Get into the holiday spirit at Shawnee's annual community Christmas celebration-- in and around the downtown area and Shawnee Town! The evening  includes local carolers, carriage rides, Christmas tree lighting, storytelling, and even a visit from Santa! Food, fun and entertainment for everyone.
