Shawnee Indian Mission

Shawnee Indian Mission

Come and see the manual training school attended by Shawnee, Delaware, and other Indian children from 1839-1862. The Shawnee Mission served as an early territorial capitol, supply point on the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails and a camp for Union soldiers during the Civil War. Visit this twelve-acre site and you will experience the rich tapestry of three historic buildings, period rooms and exhibits, special events, workshops and guided tours. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968.
