1) In 1856, Quantrill raided and burned Shawnee Town long before he did his harm in Lawrence.

Joe Earnshaw was the first, non-Native American child born in Shawnee on April 14, 1865, the same day President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated.

In 1880, the population of Shawnee was 2,600.

Caenen Castle was complete in 1907, with a modern convenience of the time – a lighting system with flammable gas.

The Hocker Grove Interurban Line ran from Kansas City, Mo., to Shawnee from 1907 to 1934.

Quivira Road was known as Cemetery Road until Lake Quivira was built.
