The Shawnee Chamber of Commerce entered into a contract agreement with the City of Shawnee on October 27, 1998 for Convention & Tourism services for the City.

According to the Kansas Statute, the City of Shawnee approved a transient guest tax on hotel users for collection by the State revenue department and is then distributed back to the City of Shawnee for the promotion of conventions and tourism.

This guest tax is currently generated by the two hotels located within Shawnee, The Hampton Inn – Shawnee, and Courtyard by Marriott. A portion of these guest tax dollars is allocated to fund the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB).
